Everyone loves a hot shower. At least that’s what it seems like based on the trend we’re seeing in bathroom remodeling, as more and more homeowners are taking steps to convert their bathtub into a shower. A common method to do that is installing a cast iron shower pan that fits the footprint and layout of the tub without having to relocate the drain. We’ve had three or four clients go through that process recently while doing an Leander bathroom remodel and it’s typically a $3,000 to $4,000 upgrade.
The popularity of granite counter tops is also spreading into the bathroom these days, and there are lots of bathroom under mount sinks that go great in combination with new granite.
Another popular upgrade we’re seeing is homeowners opting to install toilets that are taller and made to meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. The ease of use for older homeowners or folks with bad knees and backs have increased demand for those kinds of toilets, and we don’t see it slowing down anytime soon.
Bathrooms and homes in general are also getting smarter these days and one option for world travelers and wealthy folks who keep multiple homes in different cities is a remote automatic shutoff. The value there is that a mobile app helps you track whether any water is being used while you’re away, which could signal an intruder or a repair need, and has the ability to shut off water to the entire home if you’re going to be away for long periods of time and don’t want idle water sitting in pipes for weeks or months at a time.
When it comes to more standard home décor options for the bathroom, the big well-known names like Delta, Kohler and American Standard are continuing to try out new designs and features for toilets and other fixtures to give your bathroom a unique look and feel.
