“I’ve got this!”
Oh, boy. “Mr. Fix It” has struck again. Now that homeowner needs a professional to get the job done RIGHT.
The “Mr. Fix-It”s of the world always try to save a few dollars by making repairs on their own. But all too often, it ends up costing more!
Most of the time the repair looks easy enough, right? Not necessarily.
One ‘Mr. Fix-It’ repair that we see a lot has to do with leaking toilets. Many toilets will begin to leak around the base, which alerts the homeowner that there is a problem. The surefire solution “DIY Guy” uses is to caulk around the base of the toilet. Sure, this may stop water from leaking out around the base of the toilet, but we’ve learned one thing in the plumbing business: water always finds a way out and now that water now has to go somewhere else. Unfortunately, that “somewhere else” ends up being under your hardwood floors, tile, carpeting, etc.
Water leaking around the base of the toilet is usually an easy and inexpensive fix – yes, even if you call a professional plumber! But trying to fix it yourself could end up making it a larger project and more costly repair.
